New Lenox did not grow gradually. It grew in waves — a modest older core along the Lincoln Highway corridor, then subdivision after subdivision from the 1970s onward, with the heaviest building through the 1990s and 2000s.

That last wave is what defines roofline lighting here. The shortcut. Someone runs the lower eave, skips the gable peaks because they are high and awkward, and calls it done. From the street the house reads as partially lit, and the eye goes directly to the dark peak. This is the single most common corner-cut in the trade.

The drift. Bulbs hand-spaced by feel wander over a long run. Sections end up visibly tighter or looser than others, and at night that reads as carelessness before it reads as anything else.

The sag. Clips not seated properly on the shingle edge let the line droop between attachment points. One sagging bay on an otherwise straight elevation is more noticeable than no lights at all.

Warm White on Brick and Stone

Long Runs Need a Power Plan

A wide two-story elevation with four roof planes is a long continuous run, and long runs raise a question most homeowners never hear about: voltage drop. Electricity loses strength over distance, so at the far end of a poorly planned run the bulbs are visibly dimmer than the ones near the outlet.

On a big New Lenox front elevation that shows up as one side of the house looking weaker than the other. The fix is planning — splitting the display across circuits and choosing drop points during design, not chaining cords together on installation day. LED helps a great deal here, but it does not eliminate the issue on a genuinely wide elevation.
