A warm-white roofline against a genuinely black tree line is far more striking than the same run on a bright suburban street, where it competes with streetlight, neighbours and commercial spill. Practically, that means:

• Output can come down. Over-lighting a dark lot flattens it and makes the house look like a floodlit building rather than a holiday display.
