Light only the main eave and the house reads as unfinished — one lit plane and one dark one directly above or below it, which the eye catches instantly. Light every plane at consistent spacing and the same house suddenly reads as deliberate.

The entry is the second half. On these homes the front door genuinely disappears after dark, set back under a soffit with no light reaching it. A lit wreath, garland on the surround, or a pair of flanking evergreens fixes it for very little money and transforms the elevation.

Commercial-grade C9 or C7 LED on all-in-one clips that grip the shingle edge or gutter lip. No nails, no screws, no staples, no adhesive. Why Warm White

We default to warm white, around 2700K — the same warmth as the incandescent bulbs everyone pictures.

Darien's housing stock leans on brick in warm reds and tans, plus aluminium and vinyl siding in creams and beiges. Cool white reads visibly blue against all of it and makes a warm elevation look cold and slightly institutional. Warm white keeps the materials looking like themselves.

Why This Isn't a Weekend Job

A Darien split-level feels approachable — it is only twelve or fourteen feet. That is exactly the misconception. The December ladder falls that put people in hospital are overwhelmingly from modest heights onto frozen ground or a concrete drive, often with a ladder footed on wet leaves.
